ChaO Anime Movie Releases Main Trailer, Visual

The official website for STUDIO 4℃'s ( Poupelle of Chimney Town , Fortune Favors Lady Nikuko ) new original anime movie ChaO released a main trailer and poster visual today. The tagline on the visual reads "The world is made of love and miracles." The trailer begins with a scene in which Stephen, an ordinary office worker, is surprised when the princess of the mermaid kingdom, Chao, suddenly proposes marriage to him. In the latter half of the clip, Chao shows her human form for the first time. The clip also introduces the film's theme song "ChaO!" provided by Japanese singer Kumi Koda . ChaO Main Trailer Main poster visual Kumi Koda previously sang the theme song for "Tatoe Kimi ga Sekaiju no Teki ni Nattemo" ("Even If You Become an Enemy of the World"), one of the omnibus film works Amazing Nuts! which director Yasuhiro Aoki worked on in 2006. At the time, Koda said to Aoki that she hoped to make a feature film with him someday, and now her wish has come true. In a video posted on the film's official X (formerly Twitter), Koda says, "I really feel a miracle and fate that my wish has come true after 19 years with the movie ChaO , and I am so happy that director Aoki wanted to work with Kumi Koda again. I saw the movie that was about to be completed, and I wanted to write a song that was closer to the main characters, so I newly wrote the song 'ChaO!' and I hope that the song will gently accompany the audience after they finish watching the movie." Hirokazu Kojima provides the character designs and serves as animation director, while Hiroshi Takiguchi serves as art director. Toei distributes the film in Japan. The film was nominated for the feature film competition at the Annecy International Animated Film Festival 2025. The festival's official website describes the synopsis of ChaO as such: In a near-future world where humans and mermen coexist, Stephen, a shipping engineer in Shanghai, develops a propeller called Air Jet that is harmless for marine life to promote peace between the two races. When Chao, a mermaid princess, pushes Stephen to marry her, their two worlds collide. As they struggle with their cultural differences, a tragic accident creates a bigger strain on their relationship.
