5 Centimeters per Second Live-Action Movie Releases New Trailer Featuring Kenshi Yonezu Theme Song

The official website for the upcoming live-action film adaptation of Makoto Shinkai's 2007 anime film 5 Centimeters per Second released a new trailer featuring the theme song "1991" provided by singer-songwriter Kenshi Yonezu . 5 Centimeters per Second Live-Action Movie New Trailer The live-action movie's director Yoshiyuki Okuyama previously directed two of Yonezu's music videos, "Kanden" and "KICK BACK" ( Chainsaw Man opening theme). Yonezu shared the following comment on "1991": When I first saw the film at a preview screening, I was thrilled with its workmanship, like "I saw something so amazing," as Okuyama-san's passion and determination were evident in every shot from beginning to end. I encountered the original anime as a child, met Okuyama-san as an MV director a few years ago, and eventually he became a film director and made such a wonderful film. I am delighted that I had a place in it. Of course, this song was written specifically for the movie, but perhaps due to the circumstances mentioned above, it also became a song that reflects on my life up to this point, so I decided to title it “1991,” which is also a keyword in the movie. I hope you enjoy it. Director Okuyama also added: Both born in 1991, we began creating art in the same era, and perhaps because of that, we have overcome similar struggles while occasionally collaborating on creative projects. I am overjoyed that we were finally able to create "5 Centimeters per Second" together. I felt that the meaning of portraying our own lives through images and music in the half-life of the protagonist, Takaki, was encapsulated in the lyrics of the song "1991," so the lyrics and melody shook my heart when I first heard it. I hope you will enjoy experiencing the melody, which feels like carefully taking each step, on the screen. The site also posted a new artist photo of Yonezu shot by Okuyama.
