Angel's Egg Anime Reveals New Visual for 4K Revival Screenings

The official website for the classic 1985 OVA Angel's Egg ( Tenshi no Tamago in Japan) released a new poster visual for the upcoming theatrical screenings of its 4K restoration version. This visual was newly drawn by Yoshitaka Amano, who was in charge of the original story and art direction for Angel's Egg , for the first time in 40 years for the anime. Angel's Egg 's original story / script writer and director, Mamoru Oshii shared the following comment on the new visual: It's a masterpiece. This is Amano-san's first work for "Angel's Egg" in 40 years, and I can really feel the passage of time. Previous posters focused on the girl, so it's interesting to see the boy as the main character, and I think it completely revamps the image of "Angel's Egg." I can only imagine what Amano-san was thinking, but I guess it means that the boy has grown up. Additionally, an interview video in which Amano talks about the secrets behind creating the visual has also been released. The 71-minute OVA released from Tokuma Shoten in Japan on December 15, 1985, and also received a limited theatrical run. The anime's 4K restoration version is produced to commemorate its 40th anniversary. The version's world premiere was held at the Cannes Film Festival 2025 in its "Cinéma de la Plage" section on May 20. In Japan, the 4K version will release exclusively in Dolby Cinema theaters first starting November 14, and will follow in theaters nationwide from November 21. GKIDS will also screen the 4K version in North American theaters on November 19, 2025. The synopsis reads: In a submerged city, a young girl continues to care for a large eggshe holds preciously in her arms. She believes it is the egg of an angel. A boy with a huge gunalights from a peculiar chariot. He is in search of the bird he saw in his dream. In an abandoned city, it seems as if a faint sense of sympathy has developed between the two.
