Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle Becomes 3rd Highest-Grossing Film of All-Time in Japan

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle ’s historic box-office run continues in Japan and the Asia box office this week, as it continued to break more records for not just anime films but all movies. As of August 24, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle is the third highest-grossing film in Japan behind Mugen Train in first and Spirited Away in second, pushing Titanic out of the top three for the first time since its release in 1997. Infinity Castle has now brought in 28.08 billion yen (US$189.90 million) on the back of 19.82 million tickets sold, according to the series' official X (formerly Twitter) . Across Southeast Asia, where Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle has opened in most markets, the anime film also continues to break records. In Taiwan, the first territory outside of Japan where the movie opened, the movie continues to top the box office charts with a total gross of NT$556 million (US$18.34 million). This makes it the number one film in Taiwan for the year, according to distributor Muse . According to a Sony Pictures Entertainment press release, Infinity Castle opened in the Philippines with US$4.2 million, already making it the highest-grossing anime film in the country. Other Southeast Asia box office updates included Thailand with US$6 million, Hong Kong with US$7.1 million, Indonesia with US$6.2 million and Malaysia with US$5.0 million. According to Korean film tracker KOBIS , Infinity Castle opened in South Korea in first place with US$12.16 million made and over 1.6 million tickets sold. With the head of the Demon Corps in danger, Tanjiro and the Hashira rush to the headquarters but are plunged into a deep descent to a mysterious space by the hands of Muzan Kibutsuji.
