Hotori: Simply Wishing for Hope, Alien Nine Anime Head to Blu-ray from AnimEigo in 2026

AnimEigo had its industry panel at Otakon 2025 today, bringing with it some release dates for previously-announced titles and teases for a couple new licenses. The latest additions include two new titles that will fall under the distributor’s Ruined Childhood imprint: Hotori: Simply Wishing for Hope and Alien Nine . Both are currently planned for release sometime in 2026. This marks the first North American release of Hotori: Simply Wishing for Hope , a 2005 Animax Award-winning TV special. Takashi Anno directed the special at Sunrise. 2001’s Alien Nine is a four-episode OVA adaptation of Hitoshi Tomizawa’s manga, featuring Yasuhiro Irie ( Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood ) as director. AnimEigo’s Blu-ray will include the episodes in HD with both the original Japanese language track with English subtitles and an English dub. Director Sanpei Shirato’s 29-episode series will be presented across three Blu-ray discs in HD, all restored from the original film materials. Looking for the Full Moon Vol. 2 follows on November 11, featuring HD remasters of episodes 27-52, available both subbed and dubbed. The 12-episode Black Jack OVA closes out the year with a two-disc set on December 16.
